Assignment 4:  Chapter 3 Questions

Respond to the following Questions.  Students should complete this assignment after reading and reviewing the material for each chapter, attending class and taking lecture notes.  This assignment is designed to help students review material and prepare for exams.  Save a copy of your chapter questions for your review sheet to study for exams.  Students are expected to provide at least one paragraph (3-5 sentences) for each question.  Each question assignment submission is worth 20 points. 

1.        Define the terms creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.  How are these terms related?
Creativity is the ability to develop and discover new things such as idea or real creation which is different with something in advance as solution on problem or opportunity. Creativity is a first step to create innovation.
Innovation is applying our creative idea into new situation or doing new things that we thought before in creativity process as an implementation in our business to enrich people’s living.
Entrepreneurship is a someone’s ability to builds a business through create a new product based on innovative, initiative and creative with using available resources, brave to face of risk with a purpose to get profit.
Entrepreneurs connects their creative ideas through real action to reach their goal. To be success entrepreneur, someone should have brilliant idea to satisfy demand in marketplace. Creative idea is not good enough if it is not supported by an action. So that entrepreneur need innovation to make their idea have value-added in consumer’s eyes.
2.        In regards to creativity, describe how the human brain functions.
Human brain divided by two sides. There are left side and right side. Left-side lead by linear and vertical thought. It is related with language, symbol and logic. Left-side brain works systematically or step by step. Right-side brain related with emotion. It processes whole information in one time and it doesn’t systematically. Creativity is situated in right-side. An entrepreneur needs the both human brain thinking. An entrepreneur needs right-side to create many news ideas to make business idea. An entrepreneur also needs left-side to count on convergent reasoning, the ability to evaluate multiple ideas and to choose the best solution to a problem also identify the market.
3.        What can entrepreneurs do to stimulate their own creativity and to encourage it among workers?
Entrepreneur should solve creativity barriers to stimulate their creativity. To enhance their creativity, an entrepreneur should give a chance to their self to be creative. These following are ways to be creative such as doing something different every day, writing each idea, listening others and customers, talking with child, observing other products, keeping toy box in office, take some time off, reading stimulate book, get adequate sleep and many more. An entrepreneur can encourage it among workers through create creativity situation in work circle. An entrepreneur should make sure that workers have a freedom to create innovation. An entrepreneur should be able to develop corporation culture in company and give an appreciate to workers on their hard work. An entrepreneur also should give support and motivation to workers that they can do their best.

4.        Explain the steps in the creative process.
Creative process includes seven steps begin from preparation till implementation.
·               Preparation. This step asked us to think creative and innovative. We can do training whether formal or informal as preparation. In this step, we also need to listen and discuss with people who have experiences, join with professional organization, eliminate creative distraction and many more
·               Investigation. We expect to develop strong understanding about problems and situations in that time
·               Transformation. Involves viewing both the similarities (convergent) and the differences (divergent) among the information collected.
·               Incubation. This phase happens when an entrepreneur keeps away from problem even involved in different environment that have no related with his field. Our subconscious needs time to reflect information that we gathered.
·               Illumination. In this phase, every step-in advance become one to create creative idea
·                Verification. This phase is a process to validate our idea is it accurate or useful. The purpose to examine our idea works in real life.
·               Implementation. We make our idea comes true.
5.        Define the terms patent, a trademark and a copyright.  Explain how they are different.
·      Patent. A grant from the Patent and Trademark Office to the inventor of product, giving the exclusive right to make, use, or sell the invention for 20 years from the date of filing the patent application. 
·      Trademark. Any distinctive word, symbol, design, name, logo, slogan, or trade dress a company uses to identify the origin of a product or to distinguish it from other goods on the market. 
·      Copyright. An exclusive right that protects the creators of original works of authorship such as literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works. Sign up for copyright give creators a big guarantee on his creation.
